After the End of CDMA spectrum auction for 800MHz band, Sistema Shyam TeleServices (SSTL) which runs its services under the MTS brand has won cdma license across 8 circles out of 11 circles.
Earlier Company has deposited Rs 613.75 crore for CDMA Auction to be held on march 11, 2013 which allowed them to bid for 11 circles including Delhi, Gujrata, Karnataka, Kerala, Kolkata, Maharashtra, Mumbai, Rajasthan, Tamilnadu and Uttar-Pradesh (E) and west Bengal.
Now after the end of today's (March 11) auction for 800MHz band, MTS will be able to continue its telecom services across 8 circles including Delhi, Kolkata, Gujarat, Karnataka Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Uttar Pradesh (West) and West Bengal circles along with Rajasthan circle.
No exact details has been published whether Company did not bid for or just skipped the auction for remaining three circles including Mumbai, Maharashtra and UP(E) but they lost CDMA spectrum licenses across these 3 circles.
MTS will inform its customers across Mumbai, Maharashtra and UP(E) circles soon to port out to retain the same mobile number.
MTS has already announced to close down its cdma service across 10 circles Andhra Pradesh, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Assam, North-East, Bihar-Jharkhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Orissa and Punjab
900MHz and 1800Mhz band for GSM service were also to be auctioned but due to lack of bidders Auction was postponed and Government is expected to cut down the base price in future to to make upcoming auction successful.
