Department of Telecommunication of India has denied to proceed further telecom license renewal request submitted by two leading telecom companies Vodafone and Bharti Airtel in the areas including Mumbai, Delhi and Kolkata.
19 years of 900Mhz telecom license is going to end on November 29, 2012 for Mumbai circle and November 30, 2012 for Delhi and Kolkata circles.
Bharti Airtel need to renew the license for 900Mhz band in Kolkata and Delhi and Vodafone need to do same for the circle Mumbai.
According to DOT, Telecom companies can continue the operation till the last date of their current unified access licenses validity, post expiry company need o migrate to a new unified license. To further proceed operation in current telecom areas, telecom company have to own the license by going through market-related process.
Two company has already submitted applications in Delhi High Court, Court ordered DOT to process the application.
According to DOT documents, Two companies need to to participate the last spectrum auction held on 11 March 2013 to acquire the spectrum license for the circles but they did not take part in the auction.
Court also directed to two company to come back if they were not satisfied by DOT movements.
