Indian Rail started free WiFi internet service in trains today and passengers traveling across India through Trains can now browse websites and do important works online any time just by switching on the WiFi connection in smartphone, laptop or tablet.
Indian Railways initially starts the service in Delhi- Howrah Rajdhani train and later free WiFi internet facility will be implemented in other 50 trains this year.
Passengers in selected trains are allowed to browse and download at 4mbps and upload at 512kbps speed but actual speed may vary depending the number of simultaneous connected WiFi users but Railways assured to upgrade the speed in future in case higher bandwidth is required.
Most of the passengers can't access wireless internet service in long journey trains due to high roaming data charge and speed in moving trains is also fluctuates every time.
Indian Railways newly launched this innovative service will helps businessman as well as regular users to check emails, news updates, browse social networks, online payments even the most important issue for the passengers: train schedule and ticket booking and more.
Internet users in trains will get the service from WiFi devices located inside the trains which has used satellite technology with help of 2G/3G and WiFi facility, connection will automatically switch from 3G to 2G if 3g remains unavailable and passengers will face zero percent disconnection problems.
How to activate Free WiFi in Trains
Each passenger who want to access free WiFi in trains need to authenticate himself before use the service. A unique an mandatory password will be sent to desired User after submitting the required details which are PNR number, Mobile number and Voter ID card details (or any other Government ID proof).
Before the final Green signal decision comes out, Indian Railways has checked the WiFi service in 2mbps bandwidth where 120 passengers were connected in one trial connection surfing different pages simultaneously and found no unwanted issue which ensured an error free service at real time.
