RCOM is shutting down its GSM services from November 30, 2017. Rcom will continue 4G only services afterwards. Customers not interested in 4g upgrade can PORT out RCom mobile numbers before 14th November, 2017 to any other existing GSM/4G network and continue seamless services.
RCOM has already started sending SMS to existing subscribers about PORTing out numbers. RCOm IVR and Online based Support are down/ not reachable for some internal issues.
As per Reliance Store ‘Rcom will stop GSM services (2G/3G) from November 30, 2017 and PORT out number before November 14, 2017‘. We have heard no information about 4G upgrade from Store although.
Vodafone, Airtel, BSNL, Aircel have started offering different types of PORT Offer to ‘RCOM PORT OUT' customers.
Reliance GSM subscribers not interested in 4G upgrade immediately need to collect 8 digit UPS aka PORT number and approach to any other network service center for porting the existing numbers.
It's true that Jio unlimited Voice calls forced subscribers avoiding primary numbers which is why periodically recharge on primary numbers has been reduced by significant fractions resulting huge loss in monthly revenue for existing telecom networks, coming from Voice calls.
Loss of spectrum, Subscribers loss while upgrading 2G to 3G, CDMA Shutdown and ‘Unlimited Free Voice calls for lifetime' – all these factors have made RCOM to choose new strategy : – 4G Upgrade and offer unlimited voice calls as well as data.
RCOM has successfully merged MTS for serving superior 4G services across the circles.
RCOM has issued no information about 4G upgrade till now. ‘RCOM Zero' was the best unlimited 3G service in a time when subscribers were charged Rs 255 for 1Gb 3g data.
RCOM GSM services will stop working from November 30, 2017 which means your RCOM number won't get any signal from both 2G & 3G network. Collect PORT number immediately as well as port out RCOm number before November 14, 2017, to avoid any unwanted outcomes.
How to PORT out RCOM mobile number
Step 1: Send PORT10 digit Mobile no to 1900 i.e PORT 1234567890 to 1900
Step 2: You will get 8 digit UPS code and save it
Step 3: Visit desired Operator store with RCOM Sim, Adhar Card or Voter Card Zerox & Photocopy for filing CAF form and initiate the PORTing process
Step 4: It may take 5 to 7 days to execute the process. Number will continue services during this period.
Step 5: You will receive a message from RCom that PORTing has successfully processed.
Step 6: Now Insert new Sim issued by new network and follow activation process to enjoy new network and its services.
It's great that Indian telecom operators are upgrading existing network to 4G. There is a huge numbers are customers across the country who don't prefer monthly subscription for Calls. A large number of subscribers opt in Promo pack and usually top up account as per need ; VoLTE phone is yet to reach a large base of telecom subscriber in next couple of years which is why complete abolition of GSM service will be death to some subscribers
Reliance GSM will be remembered mostly because of its ‘Unlimited On-Net call pack at cheap rate', ‘Reliance ZERO Offer', '10GB 3G at 345′ and many more such services. RCOM has even been offered some services which leading telecom operators would never dare to thing about !
